Are you motivated by success? Money? Fame?  Are you trying to prove yourself to others?  Are you trying to prove your worth to a parent?  Whatever your motivation, are you motivated by the right reasons?

If you are going after something because you don’t truly want it, then you will often find that you will not accomplish the very thing you want to achieve.  Motivation is an internally driver.  It keeps you up at night and wakes you up in the morning. Motivation gnaws at you and won’t let you stop until you finally achieve the very thing that has kept you going even when it feels like life is throwing everything in your way.  If you don’t have this internal drive and you are being “motivated” by outside sources then you will be spinning your wheels.

External motivation might get you started, but it’s not going to keep you going.  Ask any good motivational speaker what happens after their speech is over.  They know that they will have a select few individuals that will actually achieve the very thing they are going after.  Why is this?  It’s because external motivation fades shortly after the speech is given.  It’s not that the speaker wasn’t great, it’s because people live within their habits.  Unless you change your habits and start to have internal motivation, then you will just be spinning your wheels.  You will be signing up for the next motivational talk and shortly after you will be in the same spot again, hoping for change but still stuck in the same spot.

Don’t let lack of internal motivation derail you from your goals.  Figure out what motivates you and how you will stay motivated.  Spend time figuring out what sets you on fire and then fan your own flame.  Once your flame is lit, don’t stop.

It’s time to get your motivation on!
